Swim in the Bioluminescence at Kilifi

The beach of Kilifi offers a very rare and magical spectacle of light. A light of a different kind, this one lives in the water and lights up when it detects movement, a phenomenon called bioluminescence. Plankton that inhabits the ocean of the African East coast possess this quality and at night, when all is dark, and you kick, splash or move around in the water, the plankton causes the ocean to glow brightly.

This is a wonderful experience, exciting as you tempt the plankton with your movements, yet so romantic.
