Tracking Mountain Gorillas In Uganda

Bwindi Impenetrable Forest is Uganda’s oldest rain forest and synonymous with gorilla tracking. At an elevation ranging from 1 160 to 2 600 metres above sea level, the forest is blessed with around 400 (2012 census) Mountain Gorillas (that’s about half of the remaining population in the world).

These gentle giants and their magnificent Silverback leaders are a must-see, and well worth including on your bucket list. Only 80 people are allowed in to track them per day. The cost of the permit, although somewhat high, contributes to the conservation of these endangered mountain gorillas and as a result the numbers are steadily increasing.
