Magashi
Magashi Camp is situated in Rwanda’s Akagera National Park overlooking the beautiful Lake Rwanyakazinga. The area is biodiverse boasting some of the most scenic savanna in East Africa – open plains, woodlands, lakes, swamp and grassy low mountains. Wildlife lovers will be delighted as it is home to one of Africa’s highest hippo densities, some very large crocodiles, a healthy population of lion, some black rhino, as well as the rare sitatunga (marshbuck). It also has more than 520 bird species. Magashi (the only exclusive-use area in Akagera) also harbours a good density of leopard.
Magashi Camp has six spacious and airy canvas tents which offer uninterrupted views over the lake. Each tent comprises en-suite facilities with an indoor shower, single vanity basin and separate toilet. Two way emergency radios have been fitted in the tents and may be used by guests to contact camp management in the event of an emergency only. The main area comprises a luxurious lounge, dining and bar area, pool and an expansive viewing deck with a convivial fire pit. The architecture and interiors pay homage to traditional Rwandan culture.
Bordering Tanzania in eastern Rwanda, Akagera National Park is central Africa’s largest protected wetland and the last refuge for savannah-adapted species in the country. Stretching across a vast expanse of low-lying mountains and savannah plains, the park takes in the rolling highlands woodlands, swamp-fringed lakes, and wetlands of the Kagera River along the way. Crocodiles and hippos wallow in the park’s watery basins, predators prowl through its acacia groves, and elephant, zebra, giraffe, buffalo and other animals roam across its grassy plains. Bursting with a rich biodiversity, the park features a variety of rare species, as well as a plentitude of mammals and hundreds of bird species.
