Officially known as the “Kingdom of eSwatini” and sometimes still referred to as Swaziland, this tiny landlocked nation encompasses a diverse array of ecosystems featuring towering mountains and low-lying savanna, tangled rainforests and lush river valleys. The Ezulwini Valley, which lies between the capital city Mbabane and Manzini, is the main tourism hub. This panoramic valley includes attractions like hotels, restaurants, hot springs, casinos, craft markets, art galleries, riding stables and a golf course. Overlooking the valley are two well-known mountains that provide stunning views from above, each with trails to reach their pinnacles, Sheba’s Breasts and Execution Rock (Nyonyane Mountain). Also in this region is Mlilwane Wildlife Sanctuary with its selection of wildlife and plenty of outdoor activities. Mantegna Cultural Village is popular for the Mantenga Falls and incorporates a cultural village where Swazi history, culture and tradition are brought alive for visitors.
Northwestern Eswatini is where the highland adventurers go because it is here where the beautiful landscapes are found with dramatic rolling uplands. Two of the country’s highest peaks are here, Emlembe (1 862 m) and Ngwenya (1 829 m). The stunning Malotja Nature Reserve has a zip-wire treetop canopy tour and tourists can also enjoy Ngwenya with its ancient mine and glass factory. Scattered around the picturesque surrounding countryside are a number of visitor attractions like the wide waters of Maguga Dam, the ancient rock art at Nsangwini, the natural haven of Phophonyane Falls Nature Reserve and the rehabilitated mountain mining town of Bulembu.
