Steeped in the aura of classical safari, the recently refurbished andBeyond Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp boasts 12 classic tents, 20 superior tents and eight superior view tents. While all the tents look out onto the open grasslands or the shady forest surrounding the Sabaringo River, the superior view tents boast exceptionally beautiful, uninterrupted views of the Masai Mara.
The superior tents feature beautiful Maasai-inspired interiors that showcase a simple and contemporary use of local materials. Oversized beds are perfectly positioned to make the most of the views, while stained cypress wood furniture combines with tribal decorative elements. The generously sized swimming pool is set among the trees and surrounded by lush lawns and spectacular views.
The game drives at Kichwa Tembo are legendary – professionally trained guides will ask you about your favorite wildlife and will do their best to ensure that your preferences are met, whether it is tracking a particular species or spending more time enjoying each sighting, getting to know the habits of the animals. They will also tell you about the vegetation of the region and will explain the behavior of the animals that you come across. In some cases, the guides will be able to identify individual animals and let you know about their history and habits. If the Great Migration is passing through the area, your guide will attempt to catch up with it and spend some time in the midst of the massed herds.
The Kichwa Tembo concession is the only place in the Masai Mara where guests can experience night game drives and is well worth it! As the sun sinks over the vast horizon, the bush comes alive with predators and other nocturnal creatures. This is the opportunity to see fascinating species that cannot be encountered during daylight.
Your stay at the camp includes game drives in an open 4×4 safari vehicle with a professional guide, as you go in search of wildlife in the Masai Mara.
Other activities on offer, at an additional cost, include Night Game Drives, Guided Walks, Sundowner Cocktails, Morning Baloon Safaris, a visit to a Maasai Village, Bush Breakfast, Bush Dinner, Maasai Dance and a private safari vehicle. The camp also offers various massage treatments for your own account.
The WILDchild programme is designed especially for children visiting the camp and is filled with fun, interactive activities that offer opportunities to learn and discover new experiences and cultures. Rooted in the love for the African bush, it creates a series of unforgettable moments for the whole family and forges strong bonds between young guests, our planet and its people.

Mara Plains Camp is a one-of-a-kind, seven tent camp located in the private 35,000-acre Olare Motorogi Conservancy, just on the northern boundary of the Masai Mara National Reserve. This intimate camp, one of Kenya’s only two Relais & Chateaux properties, blends the finest in wildlife viewing with the absolute best of safari hospitality and guiding. No other camp offers the extensive traversing area of Mara Plains Camp, with access to a total of 100,000 acres of private conservancy land as well as the world-renowned Masai Mara, home to the Great Migration.
Each guest at Mara Plains contributes considerably to the success of the Olare Motorogi Conservancy’s flourishing ecosystem; conservation fees safeguard this habitat, while supporting over 1 000 Maasai families. This partnership agreement ensures the survival of an astounding volume and variety of wildlife.
The camp is nestled in lush forest on the meandering bends of the Ntiakitiak River, and careful thought was given to every detail.
Each of the seven tents has deep canvas canopied ceilings, rough-hewn wood floors and accents of East Africa’s rich safari history. Thick Lamu wood doors, deep purples, and brass accents – these small details transport guests to a time and land far away.
The well-appointed en-suite facilities (including a deep copper bath) plus the extensive private verandah complete what is genuinely a stunning concept. These stylistic elements coupled with thoughtful environmental elements such as solar power and no cement make Mara Plains a modern-day safari retreat.
Olare Motorogi Conservancy is reputed to have the lowest vehicle density in the Masai Mara region, while also having the highest concentration of big cats anywhere in Africa.
By day and night, the camp is a sanctuary for resident species, including many of the Masai Mara’s 300 bird species. After dark, larger mammals frequent the camp and Maasai warriors escort guests to and from their rooms. Hippos snorting and leopards barking often provide the night’s chorus.
Full board accommodation.
The day’s activities and dining arrangements are tailored around guest preference and the wildlife opportunities of the moment.
Each guest tent has a set of professional Canon camera and lenses available.

Known simply as The Maasai Mara or The Mara, and sometimes spelled Masai Mara, this large national game reserve in Narok, Kenya, is named in honour of the Maasai people, the ancient inhabitants of the area who migrated here from the Nile Basin.
The Maasai Mara is one of the most famous and important wildlife conservation areas in Africa. It is renowned for its rich populations of lion, leopard, cheetah and bush elephant. It is also home to The Great Migration, which is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World.
