Chem Chem Lodge

Chem Chem Safaris (comprising three luxury eco-camps) is located in 20 000 ha of exclusive-use land within the Burunge Wildlife Management Area (WMA) in Tanzania – between the Tarangire National Park in the east and Lake Manyara in the west. Chem Chem Lodge is one of these, and is found adjacent to Lake Manyara. It was designed to evoke the spirit, luxury and intimacy of a vintage safari experience that is both beautiful and purposeful.

Situated within a luscious palm-island, this 5-star accommodation consists of an opulent main house and eight secluded tented suites (including 1 family suite comprising two tents – the second tent has 2 single beds for children).

Each suite is completely private; created from a combination of canvas, lava-stones and wood, and featuring indoor and outdoor showers, reading corners, dressing rooms, private patios and expansive views.

Chem Chem’s main lodge reflects the form of a flamingo with its wings spread wide for landing. Located here is the gourmet restaurant, fireplaces, a bar, lounge and a fully stocked library.

Why we like it here

Chem Chem Lodge is home to the “Slow Safari”. This is where guests uncover the secrets that sustain the delicate ecosystem on foot (guided walking safari) with a Maasai warrior by their side. In so doing, the ethos of a safari as a tangible, sensual experience beyond the confines of a vehicle is realised. For a more active experience, you can run across the plains with the Maasai.

Wi-Fi is available in the main area and the rooms.

Relax at the Chem Chem Spa.
