Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge

Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge, adjacent to Volcanoes National Park in north-western Rwanda, lies approximately 3 kilometres from the main entrance to the Park, from where guests trek on-foot to see the magnificent Mountain Gorilla. The lodge is situated in the foothills of the mighty Virungas, the chain of 15 000 ft volcanoes stretching through Rwanda, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo. As a result it, affords wonderful and dramatic views to the Virunga Volcanoes and the surrounding low-lying farmland.

Accommodation at Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge comprises 6 cottages, 2 suites and 1 family cottage. All are stone buildings with Rwandese terracotta tile roofs, and feature large sitting areas, fireplaces, stylish en-suite bathrooms finished with Venetian plaster, a dressing room and a sheltered veranda. Heat exchangers in the fireplaces provide a plentiful supply of hot water. The family cottage comprises two independent en-suite rooms connected by a shared veranda.

WiFi is available at the main lodge and in all the guest cottages and suites. The main lodge building comprises the reception, a cozy sitting room, a dining room, a library / games room, a responsible tourism / community awareness room, a shop and bathrooms.

It is a prime location due to its proximity to the Virunga Mountains and the Parc National des Volcanoes where guests trek on-foot to see the magnificent Mountain Gorilla.

Things to be aware of

A maximum of 80 gorilla permits are issued per day and during high season these sell out far in advance. It is therefore important to book gorilla permits as early as possible.

Gorilla treks take place in the morning and depart from the Park Headquarters at around 07:30 in the morning.

The minimum age for gorilla trekking in Rwanda is 15 years.
