African Bush Camps Thorntree River Lodge

Thorntree River Lodge is set in Zambia’s Mosi-Oa-Tunya National Park, just a short distance from the famous Victoria Falls. Having recently been completely rebuilt with an environmentally-conscious design and inspired by the local customs and culture, the result is modern while still authentically African.

The lodge consists of eight suites and two family suites with inter-leading units. Each unit has its own indoor and outdoor bathrooms, as well as a luxurious private plunge pool. The main lodge consists of a lounge with an open dining area, where the fine-dining experience of African cuisine comes to life. There is a gym and spa which overlook the mighty Zambezi River, and a small library with Wi-Fi. The communal deck is set on the edge of the stunning riverside, and is home to a sunken boma area and an infinity pool.

Why we like it here

Wooden decking floats on the edge of the river, and moves with the water level to create the illusion of sailing a boat, and help to achieve a seamless feel between river and land.

There is air conditioning.

Activities on site include bird watching, boating, canoeing, fishing, game drives, massages and rhino tracking.

Things to be aware of

Besides visiting the Zambian side of the Victoria Falls, it is possible to visit the Zimbabwean side during low water season.

No age restriction. However, children under the age of 16 will not be able to participate in walking safaris or canoeing.
